Reid Hurst Nagy Inc. has always been proud of the caliber of leadership at the helm of our firm. This year, two of our founding Shareholders and Directors received highly notable and well-deserved awards at the CGA-BC’s Chair’s Banquet and Awards Gala on September 20, 2014.

Congratulations to Bruce Hurst, CPA, FCGA and John Nagy, CPA, FCGA and thank you for your continual leadership, guidance and inspiration to the entire RHN family, both near and far.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP – Bruce Hurst, CPA, FCGA

The Life Membership award is the highest honour that CGA-BC can bestow upon its members. Bruce Hurst, along with several other members, was awarded Life Membership at this year’s conference in recognition of his meritorious service to the Association and the profession over a period of many years.

Bruce Hurst, CPA, FCGA, has exhibited an unwavering dedication to the Association and he has been a staunch supporter of any efforts to recruit the best and brightest minds to the accounting profession. In addition to serving as CGA-BC’s 2011 President, he has sat on several CGA committees and advisory groups since 1988, including Ethics, Discipline, and Practice Review, Strategic Planning and the Public Practice Advisory Group. Since 1995 he has served as an appointed representative to the Technical Advisory Group sponsored by the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of BC and he has been a member of the Financial Planners Standards Council since 1999. Bruce was also appointed by the Province of BC to the Auditor Certification Board four years ago.

R.W. CAULFIELD AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP – John Nagy, CPA, FCGA

The R.W. Caulfield Award for Leadership was created to honour those who exhibit superior leadership. The award celebrates those who are recognized as visionary leaders in their organization, in public service, and in their community activities. In 2014, John Nagy is one of two members being honoured for their outstanding service to CGA—both provincially and nationally—and their contributions to the advancement of the profession.

John Nagy, CPA, FCGA, is currently a member of CPA Canada’s Board of Directors. He served as CGA-BC’s President in 1999 and he was Chair of CGA-Canada’s Board of Directors in 2003-2004. He has chaired several provincial committees, including Strategic Planning, Finance, and Public Practice. At the national level he chaired the Professional Standards Committee, the Finance Committee, the Education Committee and CGA Canada’s International Qualifications Assessment Panel. He was appointed to the Accounting Policy Advisory Committee of BC by the Minister of Finance in 2009 and he was invited to join Canada’s Accounting Standards Oversight Council, which he served from 2010-2012. John is a principal of Reid Hurst Nagy CGAs, one of the largest CGA firms in BC.

CGA-BC’s Chair’s Banquet and Awards Gala is an annual event that celebrates members who have made significant contributions to the Association, to the accounting profession and to their communities. This year’s event was held in Victoria on September 20, 2014. The members who were honoured this year carry on a wonderful legacy of service and success established by CGAs for more than 60 years.
