RHN’s Kelowna office houses a small and intimate team. That’s part of what makes it the perfect place for David Bellew, a senior accountant with a love for people, service and community building.
“The team here is passionate about the community they serve,” says David. “I feel like I can truly make an impact in my work.”
David has always been interested in business and finance, completing his degree from UBC in economics after moving to BC from Ontario. He later moved to Fort McMurray, where he worked in the aviation industry for a few years before deciding to enter the CPA prep program and move to Kelowna to pursue a career in accounting.
“I liked the idea of working for an accounting firm because it fulfills my love of serving others,” David says. “I worked for a larger firm first and, while it was a great experience, I really wanted a chance to get more personal with clients. The smaller size of the RHN Kelowna office allows me to be more involved with clients on a personal basis, which is what I love most about my job.”
Although David started at RHN as an intermediate accountant, his expertise and exceptional service-oriented approach to his work soon earned him a promotion to Senior Accountant. His favourite part of his new role? Even more opportunity to connect and engage with clients and team members.
“Moving into a leadership role means taking on more engagement opportunities with clients, as well as mentoring junior team members,” David explains. “I really get to understand the needs of those around me and help them accomplish their goals.”
A day in the life of a senior accountant at RHN
Like all RHN team members, the variety of work and clients means no two days are truly the same, but there are a few constants that stand out to David.
“Every single day starts with friendly interactions with the rest of the team,” he says. “And throughout the day, there are plenty of connections with managers, directors and peers as we work together to help our clients succeed.”
From a workload standpoint, David works on a range of projects including investment files, nonprofits and First Nations engagements.
